Adding files to my smb folder for jellyfin but it disappers

Hi guys thanks for having me in this community I am happy to be here, this is my first time having a home server and using truenas scale. I have managed to successfully set up the system however as I add files to a folder to get to see movies (Jelly fin). it copies the files successfully but then disappears. any help from you guys will be highly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Are your movies fully legal with a license?

yeah as some are there and some isn’t there

I was joking.

Disappears from where ? From SMB share ? From Jellyfin app ?

What kind of

lol kool np! from the app itself.

and the file too

there might be multiple reasons :

  • SMB permissions
  • How you import Library into JellyFin (Movies vs Home Videos Photos)

there is permission for jellyfin to see the files through smb

is this a question or a statement ?

statement. how do you recommend I set up the permissions as i’m still brand new to all of this(jelly fin and home server)

The user that you use to run Jellyfin container should have RO access to movies. Thats the only permission you need.

In my case I run it as apps user of truenas. So this user needs to have RO access to movies folder.

But it is equally important to select correct Media indexer in Jellyfin. The Movie one expects movies to be named against certain naming convention, hence I usually use Home Videos Photos that picks up everything).

I will try this and get back to you soon.

I have uninstall this app and reinstall it and I found that I had it set up all wrong for SMB I needed to have SMB checked in the permissions tab. I have all the files loaded and its working thanks for your help.
