For about few weeks I am struggling with my TruNAS. After I reset the Server the SMB users cannot connect to their shares. If don’t restart the server and I set a new passwords everything works fine.
At first I was working with the Freenas 11.3, after some time I updated it to 11.3 U5. With that version the issue started to appear. I tried to update to Truenas 12.0 Core, which went ok. Eventually I update to Truenas Core 12 U8.1.
How are you users connecting? Do you have a user set up just for SMB sharing on TrueNAS Core? What OS are users using to connect, Windows 10, 11? What error messages?
i’m not familiar with those old versions, but for sure you can grab some audit from GUI, they can for sure help debugging.

according to guides, freenas 11.3 has been released on January 28, 2020, so it should already use NTLMv2 by default.
Have you instead activate the NTLMv1 or used some aux param?
What NTLM version are your client using? Should be Send NTLMv2 response only. Refuse LM & NTLM.
Also to mention, that the problem can be entirely on clients, sometimes is worth to delete credentials from the ms store, and re-add
When I will be near the server I will check those parametres.
When it comes to credential manager in Windows I only clear the saved passwords for SMB share, but the rest I lef.
Also I need to add that when I restart the server the SMB users doesn’t work with Network scanning. It is set in the Epson multi functional printer which has it’s own OS.
That’s why I think that the issue is on the server side.
