Each time I reboot the TrueNAS Scale server, no user can login over SMB anymore. Windows says: Username or password incorrect for every single user configures.
Resetting the password over the Web UI fixes the login until the next server restart.
Another thing: This started happening with the 25.04 version. If I change my password to the same it was in the WebUI Windows doesn’t even ask for the password, since it was correct in the first place.
Good that this issue is being addressed. Just to be clear: All the users that had this issue did not have empty passwords. Is this still the same issue?
This is of course a completely superfluous problem.
This is why we have now spent weeks unnecessarily testing all the settings for smb/cifs, even though everything worked before.
As a result, settings were changed even though it was not necessary. Sometimes these changes can no longer be traced back and are difficult to correct.
The update to 25.04 has caused a lot of confusion.
I have the same problem but the only two users (besides root and truenas_admin) look good. How do I find out, which user breaks the SMB password DB?
Community Edition 25.04.2.4
When trying to access an SMB Share, despite correct credentials, windows explorer gives the message that thr password is incorrect. Resetting the TrueNAS password of the user that was used to try and connect to the SMB share via the TrueNAS web interface to the same value as before leads to successful connection.
For a few months, I was able to use the Truenas without any issues, but 2 weeks ago there was another power outage and I needed to restart the server.
Right now I needed to enter the smb users’ credentials on the server and remapped the drives in Windows(I didn’t change the credentials at that time, so I didn’t need to configure network scanning separately).
I will try your solution when I will be near my server.
