The “missing” drive could in fact be the SATA DOM, which is used for the boot-pool.

Yup, you are missing a drive. Enterprise edition is not really my field, but I would try a reboot before anything.

Looks like it’s a bug with the GUI, then. (Referring to the “drive bays overview” in your first post.)
Either GUI or API. That’s work for iX’s team though, we have little experience with enterprise versions… I don’t seem to recall any similar thread on the old forum.
Very pretty pool illustration. I do wonder how they determine the actual hot-swap location unless they’ve become very consistent re: which cable goes to which hot-swap bay.
That’s pretty much how they have to do it, with passive backplanes. Not a big deal with a decent production setup, though individual SATA connectors instead of SFF-8643 make for a pain in the ass and potentially higher defect rates during assembly.
Those disk drive temperatures (60+*C) scare me, even if those are flash drives are under scrub. Has the cooling system failed?
There was a thread on the old forum about overheating in Minies due to (iirc) faster than 5400RPM drives being used.
My MiniXL did an excellent job of cooking my drives in their own juices while under scrub or resilver. I tried fitting better fans, etc. and came to the conclusion that more radical case modifications would be needed to make especially the top two drive bays barely tolerable. The case design of the Mini Xl was around minimizing space / volume, not good ventilation.
Instead, I decided to go for the Lian-Li Q26A, which is still the best case out there for small (sub-10 drive) NAS systems out there as long as you can tolerate a Mini-ITX form factor motherboard squeeze. It is not much larger than a Mini XL but it uses a standard ATX PSU, offers excellent access (pop out sides), and very efficient / effective fooling with just a few Noctua 120mm fans. Best of all, the HDDs present their butts to you when you open the case so the S/Ns (at least for HGST) are there, in plain sight. Makes pulling the right hard drive trivial, no GUI display needed.
The optional backplane makes it almost as easy as the hotswap bay of the MiniXL. Unlike the MiniXL, the whole thing is KISS. All I need to know is what S/N I need to pull and I can do the rest without having to look at the GUI. Heck, I can even shut the machine down in case I don’t trust the backplane (and its missing capacitors).
I do not think so. The system is 4 years old and has been running CORE up until a few days ago.

My hard drives just learned to never complain again for being run, even briefly, over 35*C.
I just upgraded memory(16GB->64GB) and it seems like it might have bumped the temperature a few degrees up.
Adding any kind of heat source can do that.
My bigger concern is that your drives were operating over the preset temperature limit for over a year and a half. To me, that suggests a high potential for trouble though various papers have yet to make a definitive link between drive longevity and disk drive temperature.
Outside of some SSD drives and HBA controllers, 60*C+ temperatures make me nervous. But my NAS also sounds like a Concorde on takeoff due to all the fans
Yikes, over 60 degrees Celsius? That’s not even “that’s bad” territory, it’s “vendor nopes out of the warranty” bad.
