Folders or datasets? You can only exclude datasets.

Funny, but no, they are definitely not. Which is the point.
Also worth noting that directories and datasets have different icons in the UI path selectors.
Datasets are basically a filing cabinet. Directories are folders. You should be able to control filing cabinets in replication, but not folders.
