Something like a snapshot keeps being created for a dataset, not sure why

Hi,

For over a year now these folders that look to be snapshots keep appearing in this dataset:

I’ve been browsing through the zfs,zfs-destroy,zfs-snapshot man pages, and haven’t been able to figure out how to tell if these folders are in fact snapshots, or something else.

I don’t see anything under snapshots, replication, cron in the web UI which would make these appear…

I’d appreciate any advice!

zfs list -t snapshot will tell you if they are indeed snapshots. My guess is they are not. ZFS snapshots are not visible like this in ls.

Thanks pmh,

It looks like they are not snapshots:

That shows I was going down the wrong rabbit trail, but now I’m even more confused as to what is going on here.

OK, I still don’t know what’s going on but I believe I’ve found the root cause.

I noticed the auto-generated directories only have two (empty) folders within, and those two datasets are the only ones inside of jail-share which are unencrypted as a side effect from upgrading Core to Scale. I’m going to backup, delete, and recreate those two datasets.
