Backing up to Infomaniak

Hello,

I’m thinking of backing up some data to Infomaniak but when I tried to add the Infomaniak cloud credentials I didn’t see the option. Even though it’s not officially integrated, I think I could still use another method but I don’t know which one to use?

  • SFTP
  • FTP (probably not this one)
  • Box
  • HTTP
  • WebDAV

Are there some users who already succeeded into adding their Infomaniak account?

Their docs say they provide this, but don’t provide any support for it:

But really, S3 is pretty much the default protocol for any serious data storage. If they don’t support it (and it doesn’t appear they do), I’d look elsewhere.

They also seem to have Swiss Backup which support S3 but it’s more expensive.
Why is S3 the only good choice? I never used WebDAV before so I don’t really know what it do.

I wouldn’t say it’s the only good choice, but pretty much all the cloud storage providers[1] support it, and it’s pretty much the standard for cloud data storage. It’s very widely used, both on the client side and on the server side.

If they have a separate product that does provide S3 storage, that’s what they intend you use for bulk data storage.

  1. Amazon obviously, as it’s their protocol. But also, just as a sampling, Backblaze, Digital Ocean, MS Azure, Google Cloud, OVH, Vultr, Linode, IBM, iDrive, etc. ↩︎

You’re right. I think I’ll go with Swiss Backup since it has Swift, S3 and SFTP. But in the list the only S3 I see is Amazon S3.

Should I use Amazon S3 even though I’m not on AWS ?

Yep. You can set custom endpoints as required by your provider.
