Boot mirror failure, stuck on ramdisk

I posted about this on Discord but never got a response. Not trying to double posts, just looking for help to troubleshoot and understand what may have happened.

- Scale 24.04.1.1
- AMD 7900
- SuperMicro h13sae-mf
- 48Gb RAM

Smart found errors on a 128GB sata ssd that was setup as a boot mirror

Sata0 : Patriot 210 128GB
SMART Status Bad, Backup and Replace
Press F1 to Resume...

Press DEL to run Setup
Press F11 to invoke Boot Menu
Press F12 to boot from PXE/LAN
DXE--AHCI Initialization.. A2

Nothing was responsive. If I did get through, it crashed after a few minutes and would start over.

At this stage I pull the first drive hoping the second drive would pickup the slack and boot, no joy. It doesn’t give me an F1 to resume, but just spots back some errors.

I came across a few discussions about Scale and updating the bios in similar situations. Despite the server running for months prior to this. So I updated the Supermicro bios from 1.2 to 2.0a just to see if I could get into the setup menu or to another screen. Still crashed.

So I pulled both drives, connected them to another machine and tried to run tests, but the drives magically lost their smart reporting.

I do see an UFI partition on each of them.

I ended up installing the TrueNAS on an M2 and re importing the config. That took dramatically less time than troubleshooting the boot mirror.

Anyways, If anyone has experienced something similar, or you have some tips on the figure out what went wrong. I would love to keep hunting on my end for some kind of closure.
