Booting into TrueNAS on QNAP TVS 671 and QM2-2P2G2T and 2x NVMe

Hi .

Trying to repurpose an old decommissioned QNAP. Possibly as redundant storage at my parents house (so I can rsync / backup my primary device there)

Essentially I’m having the same issue as described here on the old forums ( which I can’t post to anymore, so I can’t ask OP)

https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/truenas-scale-on-qnap-ts-453be-whit-extension-qm2-2p2g2t-and-2x-nvme-boot-problems.111212/

I booted TrueNAS installer of USB, installed truenas on the expansion card with NVMe , but I can’t boot into it from that card.

I already updated my BIOS to latest available from QNAP, but BIOS doesn’t see PCEi devices as bootable.

Jsut wondering if anybody was able to figure it out.

My current plan is to try replacing DOM with a bigger device, and iinstalled TrueNAS on it if QNAP will recognize it - someone on Reddit mentioned it was possible.

But I think it would be awesome if I could boot from my NVMe pool.

P.S.:

I know I can setup and boot from external USB SSD/NVMe drive in enclosure, but that looks unsightly, and I’m concerned with somebody at my parents house pulling it out accidentally .
