TrueNAS on ugreen DXP2800

Greetings Y’all

I got a Ugreen DXP2800 (2 drives) few weeks back and having a couple of issues.

I started with the default UGOS, did not work too well, so my son installed NAS.

  1. With NAS, the device boots fine, but I cannot add drives due to ‘Non-Unique Serial Numbers’ Issue.
  2. I tried to reset the NAS (removed the USB hosting TrueNAS), but now the device does not boot, and I get the rolling white LEDs on the front.

Above issues are discussed in many forums but still I can’t get my device to work. I was able to download a firmware update from Ugreen, but since I can’t connect to the NAS, there is no way to upgrade it.

I’m not a Linux person so that has its own challenges.

Anyone on here has clear instructions/pointers on how to resolve this? My two options are:

  1. Revert to the original UgOS
  2. Get TrueNAS to work (and the NAS recognizing 2 different drives)

Your input is appreciated.

Try installing Scale 25.04 version for the ‘Non-Unique Serial Numbers’ problem and see if that gets you at least installed and set up. You could try a nightly 26 version to see if it is fixed there.

Got the DXP2800 myself. It comes with HDMI interface, so connect a monitor and power it up. ( sometimes i need to soft reboot Ctrl+Alt+Del the DXP to get the monitor to accept the video output ) .

Enter the DXP2800 BIOS, disable EMMC ( internal boot deviec with UgOS ) and disable watchdog.

Set boot order occordingly and install TrueNas Scale from USB for example.

If you have more dedicated questions, we can look into these as well.

Cheers

i wondered how well this would work… thx for answering it.

i did convert a qnap ts-877 and a ts-653a to truenas, but honestly… the hardware is not suited well especially price wise. better off just doing a diy which i actually did for my main rack nas.

then i don’t have to wonder if it will work well or not. because all the parts were bought myself so no surprises when i cross checked if they would work well with truenas or not.

i see that like the qnap, this ugreen also uses some sort of emmc to store the NAS OS. for my qnap, what i did was, set that DOM to NOT boot from at all. this is how i bypass it loading QTS. you could technically remove the dom altogether, but is more trouble than its worth if u later want to sell it as a 2nd hand.

one thing truenas did, it allowed my SFP+ 10g pcie card from 10gtek to work. It wouldn’t for QTS. some sort of OS support issue which truenas solves. not sure if ugreen has similar issues in that regard.
