Cannot import pool

Hello everyone.

I am using TrueNAS SCALE 25.10.1 - Goldeye.

I recently have changed the setup of one of my pools called tank: I resilvered two old 12 TB HDDs with 26 TB HDDs, added two 1,6 TB Intel DC 3520 SSDs as Special VDev and set special_small_blocks=64K.

This server is a backup server that is started with Wake-on-LAN once a week and shutdown using a job in TrueNAS SCALE. When the server started again, the pool tank was not imported automatically (another pool called morpheus was imported as usually). In the TrueNAS Web UI all of the 4 disks of the pool tank were marked as exported. The button β€œImport Pool” did not show any pool to import.

I tried to import the pool manually - without success:

root@neo[~]# zpool import -o altroot=/mnt tank
cannot import β€˜tank’: one or more devices is currently unavailable

root@neo[~]# zpool import tank
cannot import β€˜tank’: one or more devices is currently unavailable

root@neo[~]# zpool import -d /dev/disk/by-id/ata-INTEL_SSDSC2BB016T7_PHDV7254004Y1P6EGN -d /dev/disk/by-id/ata-INTEL_SSDSC2BB016T7_PHDV649200V91P6EGN -d /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WUH722626ALE6L4_TEG0V17Z -d /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WUH722626ALE6L4_TEG3WHYZ -o altroot=/mnt tank
cannot import β€˜tank’: one or more devices is currently unavailable

I exported the pool from the UI and tried to import again. I got the following error message: [EZFS_BADDEV] Failed to import β€˜tank’ pool: cannot import β€˜tank’ as β€˜tank’: one or more devices is currently unavailable

I could mount the pool in read-only mode, but I could not access the data from the encrypted datasets daten, encrypted and media after entering the passphrase.

root@neo[~]# zpool import -o readonly=on -R /mnt tank
root@neo[/mnt/tank]# ls
daten encrypted iso-images media

root@neo[/mnt/tank/iso-images]# ls
proxmox-backup-server_4.1-1.iso

root@neo[~]# zfs load-key -r tank/daten
Enter passphrase for 'tank/daten':
1 / 1 key(s) successfully loaded
root@neo[/mnt/tank/daten]# ls

root@neo[/mnt/tank/daten]# zfs load-key -r tank/media
Enter passphrase for 'tank/media':
1 / 1 key(s) successfully loaded
root@neo[/mnt/tank/media]# ls

This is the status of the pool (January 13 is the date the disk replacement took place):

root@neo[/]# zpool status tank

I have already simulated the import with additional paramters. There was no output.

root@neo[~]# zpool export tank
root@neo[~]# zpool import -fFn tank
root@neo[~]# zpool import -fFXn tank

More information about the system. All disks are attached directly to the motherboard.

  • Fujitsu D3417-B21 GS 1
  • Intel Xeon E3-1225 v5, 4C/4T, 3.30-3.70GHz
  • 2x Samsung 16 GB DDR4-2133 ECC (M391A2K43BB1-CPBQ)
  • Corsair RMx Series 2021 RM550x 550W ATX 2.4 (CP-9020197-EU)

Unfortunately, I don’t have backups of all the datasets, so I don’t want to break anything. How can I recover from this situation?

Thank you.

I could import the pool using zpool import -fF -o altroot=/mnt tank. The data seems fine. Scrub detected no problems (0B repaired). The pool is ONLINE. I ran zpool clear tank and did a reboot. TrueNAS does not import the pool automatically anymore. Any tips how to fix this?

Did you import the pool normally with the UI?

Now I can import the pool with the UI. After a reboot, the pool is mounted automatically again. Thanks.
