TrueNAS Scale Pool not working or showing up

So I was out of town and had my TrueNAS Server (24.10.2.4) throw hard drive errors. I sent over someone I thought was knowledgeable in TrueNAS, but I was wrong. He started pulling out the wrong hard drives while it was on and then just putting them back in and then didn’t fix a thing and caused problems.
When I got back I had this error from my SMB " SMB shares have path-related configuration issues that may impact service stability: SecretData: Path does not exist."
Also I had to export the pool (MainNAS) from the shell. It doesn’t show a path to MainNAS anymore either.
Next I changed the hard drives and let them resilver (been 8 days, finally done).
MY ZFS Health is bad. I am getting checksum errors.I have this message too " Critical

Pool MainNAS state is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data corruption. Applications may be affected."

I have 8 drives and RAIDZ2 in it.

I can provide any information needed.
My 2 main questions are, Is the data gone forever? And if the answer is no, then how can I recover the server…

Here is my zpool status

root@truenas[~]# zpool status -v

status: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data
        corruption. Applications may be affected.
action: Restore the file in question if possible. Otherwise restore the

Pls provide complete server details. Also how the drives are connected, and if this is a virtual instance or bare metal.

Also on my dashboard the CPU Overview (AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor), Memory (32GB) and Interface show absolutely nothing.

Checksum errors like this can stem from bad cabling, overheating/failing controller or failing PSU.

Do the checksum error counters increase? If not, it might have been a transient issue. Error counters can be reset using zpool clear.

Did you check if data is missing? I know the SMB share seems to be broken, but take a look at the list of datasets and space usage. Maybe post zfs list -r MainNAS here.

TrueNAS Scale 24.10.2.4
It is bare metal.
32GB
8 x 12TB Hard drives (all CMR, Seagate, Toshiba, WD NAS Drives)
1 256GB NVME (boot)
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor
Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) Motherboard

The checksum errors go up.

Stack trace of thread 1336148:

Mountpoints are a bit odd. But you should be able to see your data if you browse /MainNAS/MediaData.
Could you please check the Path in your share configuration?

Your pool did manage to resilver 8.51T, so I’d guess your data is likely OK (except for the files with permament errors).

If checksum counters go up on all drives that does indicate hardware error, but probably not the hard drives themselves.

This is the SMB PATH
/mnt/MainNAS/MediaData/SecretData

When I save or edit I get this

[EINVAL] sharingsmb_update.path_local: Path does not exist.

It looks like you or your “TrueNAS expert” changed the pool mountpoint.

Set the correct mountpoint using this command:

  • zfs set mountpoint=/mnt/MainNAS MainNAS

Afterwards, check using zfs list -r MainNAS that all mountpoints start with /mnt/MainNAS (you can ignore the legacy values).

Might have to restart SMB after that.

EDIT: Reading some other posts, that might not be the best procedure to fix mountpoints in TrueNAS. At least according to this post: Imported pool mounting in wrong location after upgrade (/mnt/mnt/spinpool)

Yeah I won’t let him touch any of my electronics anymore, not even the TV remote.

It won’t let me restart SMB

Is there something I need to redirect?
If I delete the SMB and start a new one, will it erase the data?

And when going to datasets in GUI it gives out errors (which I assume are due to mounting)

I think I was wrong, TrueNAS sometimes uses altroot during import.

What error did you get in the GUI?

Can you check if anything is mounted at all? I.e. check the following output:

  • mount | grep MainNAS

Also can you check dmesg output?

As was previously suggested by @Farout, check cabling / heat / etc.

When running mount

root@truenas[~]# mount | grep MainNAS
MainNAS/.system on /var/db/system type zfs (rw,relatime,xattr,noacl,casesensitive)
MainNAS/.system/cores on /var/db/system/cores type zfs (rw,relatime,xattr,noacl,casesensitive)

MainNAS/.system/cores on /var/lib/systemd/coredump type zfs (rw,relatime,xattr,noacl,casesensitive)

the dmesg output is long and looks like BUS errors… Here is a small sample

[383406.241985] systemd-journald[811]: Data h

If I can get the pool recovered I will replace the hardware this weekend. I am trying to figure what data is left or not before replacing hardware. Though if I have to replace hardware first, I can get on that.

When trying to access dataset in Gui I get CallError

[ENOENT] Path /MainNAS not found
[EFAULT] Failed retreiving USER quotas for MainNAS

Don’t think I would proceed with the current hardware setup. At least check if all cables are connected properly.

Also I use this case

SilverStone Technology CS380 8-Bay Compact ATX Tower case, CS380B-X V2.0, Black

I would add potentially bad RAM to that list, although the medium errors in that dmesg are concerning. The output of smartctl -a /dev/sdX from the drives may shed some light on if that Silverstone case is acting like an oven, they have a habit of doing that.

My line of thinking is that until the hardware issue has been solved I would avoid doing anything more with the drives on the software layer. Something is causing a large number of checksum errors, any further activity may hit critical metadata sections causing the pool to become unusable.
