Change system disk

I have a working TNS SCALE setup and I would like to swap the system disk which is 2TB and FWIK is overkill for the system, so is it correct to say that I could swap the disk for a smaller size 256GB nvme chip and then restore a backup?.

If anyone could help me sort this out, which is the strategy to migrate truenas scale to another disk and not risk data loss or damaging my production box.

Reason behind this is that I’m using a pcie to nvme card which is using the 16x slot and I want to use for a two SFP 20GB network card, I do also have a SATA to nvme adapter which could also work but I need the larger nvme for my windows box?

Yes. Providing that your system will boot from NVMe

When you take the config backup, make triply sure you are also exporting secrets. Things will break otherwise. There are parts of the config that are encrypted.
