Hi Everyone!
I’m utilizing a TrueNAS Mini-R at a corporate location.
I have recently received some VBAT sensor readings stating “Lower Critical - Going Low”. This generally points at a faulty CMOS battery. So my plan is to replace the CR 2032.
After doing some research, I’ve found a few posts stating that the battery replacement will cause the BIOS to lose settings and can potentially cause the system to not boot. Apparently, some of the settings can not be returned to their former state after a CMOS reset. This has got me very nervous to perform a simple battery replacement. Since this is in a corporate environment, I can’t afford much downtime at all.
Is there anyone that can provide me with some advice about the replacement? What should I expect, and are there any precautions I should take prior? I know that the act of replacing the battery is very simple, but if it leads to incorrect BIOS settings and a failure to boot, I want to be cautious.
As an added note, the VBAT sensor is reading within range currently and I haven’t received any VBAT sensor logs since 4/11. Is it worth the risk if it is currently reporting well?
Thank you all for reading.
TLDR: I need to replace my CMOS battery on my Mini-R, will it cause failure to boot? If so, how can I mitigate this?
