Containers - Experimental - will they be deprecated

I’m making use of Containers quite heavily as much lighter than using VMs. I know they’re marked as “experimental” but have had a reliable experience so for. I remember reading about a year ago on Incus and whether it was staying or going and then talk of converging on the tech used for VMs/Containers. To be honest, I forget the detail now. But can anyone confirm if Containers are staying or likely to be deprecated? Thanks.

Not deprecated, but there will be a change from incus to libvirt as the backend in 26.04, but there are no further information right now

Actually in the latest 26.04 Nightlies the experimental flag already disappeared and the backend is libvirt, incus has been removed

Thanks for the heads up. Are we expecting any impact or will existing containers migrate automagically?

They should be able to do the migration completely transparent.

Let’s hope they make a better job (can’t tell which network or Mac address for each NIC?).

Let’s hope they finally add proper VM and Container backups!

It’s been more than a year of fluctuation and keep waiting for something mostly complete.
