I have a home lab with a pool that has a series of mirrors. My hot spare was recently implemented to replace a disk with SMART errors. It seemed to take but the pool never turned healthy. Looking at the status, the recently adopted drive has 8 checksum errors. I ordered another drive and am currently resilvering with what I hope is a healthy drive. There are no other read, write, or checksum errors on any other disks in this or any other pool in the system.
The drive with the 8 checksum errors ran for well over a week without developing any additional errors. How bad of an idea is it to make that a hot spare for the pool?
