Problem/Justification
There is no easy way to get the hardware information from a TrueNAS box.

  • CPU features
  • Virtualisation status
  • Attached physical disks
  • RAM
  • etc…

Impact
Getting the hardware information can be useful for diagnosing issues and for technicians taking over a new box so they can see what they have to work with without having to physically visit and power down the box.

User Story
I have recently installed TrueNAS in VirtualBox on my personal laptop to look at new features and have a play.

I could not get the virtual machines to work and in the end it was because VirtualBox did not make nested virtualisation available.

Now if I have a hardware information/report page then these missing features on TrueNAS could of been presented and then it would have taken a lot less time to diagnose this.
