Hi. I’m sure this is an easy topic for a lot of you but after searching I still don’t understand what i’m doing wrong.
Ill start with what I am trying to do.
I have a Truenas server setup that has essentially served as my media server in my home. (Movies, Music etc. with Plex running). However now that my 4 kids are starting to get their own PC’s i would like to set up a share folder for each of them on the server that only that one child and my root account can access. I want to set this up in SMB so they can all access the folder from a windows pc.
I also want them to be able to access most of my current folders (music, movies, photos etc with read only permission) While also keeping them out of others.
Question is can I just set them up as a user without a group? all diff groups? same group?
Should i not have set up a root acct? is that the problem.
Also when i create the home folder makes a path like mnt/truenas/Nolan/nolan.
I dont know why it creates the named folder twice.
Thanks again.
