How do i expand a dataset storage size?

Im running truenas on a vm because i dont have a second PC and i need truenas because its the easiest way to use immich.

I had 80GB pre allocated, and the pool size was 80, but the storage pool became 57.

Now i expanded the main pre allocated storage and the expanded size shows up on truenas fine, but i dont know HOW to increase the dataset size…

please help

There really is not enough information to assist you. Unless you are using Quotas on your Dataset, you would increase your ZFS Pool size to get more storage.

What is your pool configuration?

zpool status
zpool list -v

How are the disks connected to the computer?

How are the disks passed through to the TrueNAS VM?

What storage is available that you want to add to your TrueNAS VM?

Running TrueNAS as a VM can be risky to your data. ZFS was not designed to work with virtual disks, nor external hardware RAID. In general their are special configurations to improve data safety, which vary depending on the hypervisor software, (VMWare, Proxmox, etc…).
