The regular alerts email my server sends me said that one of my disks is degraded the other day. I’m seeing online that I should run the SMART check on it and/or run a ZFS scrub, but the system “removed” it for safety reasons.
How can I bring it back to run the check? Just going to the degraded drive under Storage/Topology and clicking “Online” didn’t do anything. I’m hoping it can be saved, of course, given hardware prices lately.
If the disk didn’t suffer a critical failure & become undetectable by the system, then you don’t need it to be ‘online’ to run a smart test.
Confirm the assigned sda/b/c/d/whatever & run smartctl -t long /dev/sd(letterhere) in the shell, wait x hours (day(s)?) & review results.
More details about the system, the drives, how they are connected, etc etc, can provide additional advice on the forums.
Edit: if the drive is indeed no longer detected, then your options are to power down the system, check/reseat connections (consider moving to different available slots on motherboard/HBA if available) and hoping it becomes detected again. Be advised that rebooted the system may reassign the sda/b/c/etc naming at random & to always go off of the physical serial# when possible.
