please I need your help. I had issue with my old drives as there started spreading checksum errors. I ordered new drives and transferred data. I wasn’t able to move some part of files as there were checksum errors. Then due to my own mistakes I missed that I didn’t copied all data and deleted pool. Removed old drives put new one in place created new pool and datasets. I realized my mistake first when I wanted to copy back files, that something is missing.
I was able to restore older system backup where I can see that pool, when going on export/disconnect it shows me that following shares would be affected. But I’m not sure what will happen if I will connect one from those old drives back. What would be best ways to restore it?
I am not sure what good restoring a configuration file, that thinks the pool is still around, will do for you. A pre-deletion configuration file may not necessarily know that you’ve wiped and created a new pool in the old one’s place, that the current “Data” pool is not the same as the old “Data” pool. Those SMB Shares are more akin to a ghost, a reference to data that used to exist when the configuration was still current.
My suspicion is that wiping the pool and then making a new one will effectively have removed any real chances of recovering the data. Mind you, the link you provided mentions how to recover a dataset. Not the whole pool.
I suppose you could luck out, that someone else here has managed to salvage a situation like this and can talk you through it. You could also try running Klennet on it to see what it finds. Free to search with but costs money to buy a licence that lets you attempt recovery.
Thank you for your reply. That was an idea, that I may be able to somehow reinitialize that drive so it may be recognized by that pool, so I would be able to recover datasets and as last my data.
Not sure, if I do understand correctly what do you mean. I didn’t created poll with same name and if I remember it correctly, than in those 2 months since I created that config and deletion. I didn’t changed anything on datasets on that “Data” pool.
I will check that software you mentioned if, it can find my data than its wort of its money.
I managed to run scan against that drive and found a lot of files, but I’m not sure what they are? Can you please tell me if I’m able to do something with them?
