A while ago, I was trying to move the majority of my files around and almost ran out of space and reverted to a prior snapshot (78% of 7.17TiB to like 90% of 8.73TiB when the move process was running). Snapshot saved the system but all 3 of my drives reported the same number of checksum errors. Running zpool status -v
would show the files with the checksum errors. Checking the video playback of those files out in Jellyfin, I noticed no noticeable change in in video quality or audio so I just ignored the errors.
Eventually, the ZFS Health warning messages start bothering me and the number of checksums appear to be growing. Performing a scrub would repair 0B. Running zpool status -v
, it appears to be the new checksum errors of the same files in the snapshots. I thought of fixing it by redownloading the exact same media files from the original sources I got them and dropping and replacing the old files. As I’m doing that, the zpool status
data error amount remained roughly the same but on different files after deleting and replacing the original file. I also tried rebooting the system, unplugging all my drives and plugging them back them back in, as well as exporting and importing the pool back into my system. Still the same. The video and audio playback of these files appear fine so go back to continue ignoring that issue.
Sooner or later, since my drives were already nearly full when I first started messing around, I decided to expand the pool by adding an additional hard drive of the same capacity. That’s when it inevitably “paused for resilver or clear” and has been for the past 12 hours.
pool: Wozinator
state: ONLINE
status: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data
corruption. Applications may be affected.
action: Restore the file in question if possible. Otherwise restore the
entire pool from backup.

I don’t have a secondary machine to make backups besides just the on-device snapshots.
