Why target the TrueNAS forums? Even from a scammerās perspective, how does this help their bottom line?

Iām so tempted to call one of these obvious scam numbers, and start asking questions about ZFS when I get connected to an actual person.
Considering that the admins are asleep, once they return, how will they cleanup all of these posts (by different āusersā) without accidentally deleting legitimate posts?
All the spam posts are different. Different words. Different users. Different subforums. Some reply to themselves, while others reply to different spam accounts.
Temporarily block IPs from India.
Permanently have all first posts (or all n first posts) go through moderation.
Raise the threshold before users are allowed to edit their posts.
Annoy legitimate users.
Not so much this time. ā+91ā, āloanā, and āphone peā should catch most.

@kris, @Captain_Morgan, or whoeverās managing this forum, this is getting out of control. Discourse has settings that could helpārequire email verification before posting, the Akismet plugin, new users must wait to post, etc. Please use them. I woke up this morning to over 1000 new (spam) threads. Thereās only so much I can do to hide them.

Looks like new accounts need to be temporarily disabled. I have seen hundreds of new SPAM posts in the last 1.5 hours.
In the mean time use bulk actions to unlist them.
I would try a blacklist.
It actually began yesterday, but the moderators and/or administrators now seems to be on top of it. Thanks!

Just a note for the mods: A few hours ago I unlisted 60-ish topics[1] in General Discussion, but I lack the authority to clean the section. Please purge the heretics.

Is this related to why I can no longer create any new topics? I created one a couple days ago but now i can now no longer. is it temporary because of all the spam or a permanent thing?

So far the new restrictions and filters appear to be holding. Only had a handful of attempts since and theyāve all be caught and filtered for mod removal. Our new user signup was 6x the usual during the spam onslaught and appears to be back to almost normal again. Hopefully we have discouraged them and they move onto greener pastures
