Is TrueNAS what I am looking for? (Fujitsu SAN providing storage via ISCI)

Hello everyone,
I am currently in the process of moving away from VMware.

Once this is done, we have an older server (Fujitsu RX2540M2) and an older SAN (Fujitsu Eternus DX100 S3) which we want to use as kind of storage archive.

Currently the server is running vmware esxi hypervisor and is connected via ISCI to the Fujtsu SAN.

I do think about installing TrueNAS on the server and use the SAN as storage via ISCI. Is this possible?
From the manual it seems like TrueNAS has the ability to share storage via ISCI, but I kind of want TrueNAS to work as a “middleware”

Welcome @Utility9298.

Yes, you can use TrueNAS to serve iSCSI. Make sure you review the TrueNAS hardware guide.

What do you mean you want TrueNAS to work as middleware?

TrueNAS should be thought of as an appliance OS. It sits on your network serving storage via various protocols.

So, to be clear: TrueNAS on one system, the SAN on another. You want TrueNAS to connect to the SAN and share its storage? No, TrueNAS doesn’t support that mode of operation.

Thank you for clearing that up!
