Jails no longer reachable

Hi,

I’m very new to BSD and TrueNAS.
I started using FreeNAS back in 2019 and it’s been working without issue since.
It was basically set and forget

My old “server” died around the end of the year, I managed to export the configuration and setup a new TrueNAS Core machine and imported the config.

None of my jails work, even when I add a new jail from the web GUI.
The jails are running and are assigned IP-addresses. I can interface them through the terminal, but I cannot access their web-portals nor can they connect to the network.

I have a SMB share which works perfectly fine but none of my jails do.

I would appreciate any help :')

You need to upgrade to TrueNAS Core 13.3-U1.1.

Thanks for the reply. Do I have to manually install it?
It is not listed on the update page.

Yes.

You can also do a manual upgrade. Download the upgrade file and manually upload it in the “Update” menu in the GUI.

I have manually updated the installation to TrueNAS-13.3-U1.1
The jails still don’t work, they are updated to version 13.2-RELEASE-p12 and nothing happens when I try to update them.

I might add that the new hardware uses 2.5 Gb ethernet and I had to use the standard workaround to get it to recognize it at all. Its stuck at 1 Gb/s but the connections works.

Everything 13.x before FreeBSD 13.4 is EOL.

You need to use iocage fetch to retrieve 13.4-RELEASE and then upgrade the jails’ bases (iocage upgrade) to 13.4-RELEASE.

I would make a snapshot of your jails before proceeding.

When the time comes, you’ll have to do this again with 13.5-RELEASE. That will be the final release of the 13.x series.

Then onto SCALE and Incus, if you want to have “jails” that can be kept up-to-date.

Thanks for all the help, I’ve tried different methods of updating the jails. Nothing has helped. I’ve done some reading and it seems that TrueNAS core is EOL alongside the plugins. Migrating to TrueNAS Scale seems to be the sensible choice here?

Is it as simple as just selecting one of the TrueNAS Scale releases in the web GUI and updating or do i need to do some prep work?

I’d start here

To get “jails” on SCALE, you’ll need to install Fangtooth, which is still not a stable release yet.

You would have to create “jails” (Linux containers) from scratch, and then copy relevant config files into the new jail roots.

Did iocage fetch not offer to fetch the 13.4-RELEASE?

Hi,

Just wanted to say thanks for the help.
Ive spent the past few days migrating to SCALE, so far its been quite smooth and everything seems to work.
