I am learning how to use TrueNAS and have made a media server using Jellyfin on the following hardware:
TerraMaster F6-424 (N95 Quad-Core CPU)
DDR5 4800MHz PC5-38400 32GB (1x32GB)
4xSeagate IronWolf 4TB NAS Hard Drives
TrueNAS Version: ElectricEel-24.10.2.4 (HexOS)
I was hoping to get it working with my Denon AVR X1800H through HEOS. Is it possible to get the HEOS app to see and recognize Jellyfin? If so, can I get a breakdown on how to set it up?
I have gotten HEOS to see my hardware via a Server Share, but I would rather it interact with Jellyfin if possible.
Just did some googleing and it should be possible if you use the buildin HEOS app on your denon avr and connect to jellyfin via dlna. You may have to switch jellyfin to hostnetworking to get dlna working.
I have downloaded the DLNA addon for the Jellyfin app but it didn’t seem to make a difference and I am not sure how to move forward with getting it working.
Can you provide some steps I can try to get this working?
What do you mean by switching Jellyfin to hostnetworking?
Depends on what you want to do with it I suppose. There are a lot of people who don’t like it, currently I am mostly using it for music. If the only thing you want out of it is streaming from Pandora, Spotify, Amazon Music, bluetooth, etc… then it works great.
If you planned on using a network share, giving it an address on your network to view folders in order to access data, then its not great. Its hard to get it working and has a rough time seeing the data, it doesn’t see all the data, and currently I had it partially work but now I can’t see it at all. When I look at the Network Share under status it says its indexing but that hasn’t changes in at least over 24 hours.
I may have Jumped the Gun on this a little, while enabling the Host Network setting allowed me to view the server properly it does not use the Jellyfin app to do this and therefore it is bypassing Jellyfin. It did open the ability to select my AVR receiver through the Jellyfin App to Cast to it, but my receiver won’t play the audio file and I just get “Unable to play media please try again later.” message in HEOS
I have however opened a different app BubbleUPnP which directly interacts with my Jellyfin server and then can cast that to my receiver which did work.
Is there a way to get the Jellyfin app and HEOS to work together directly?
Can’t tell you, i do not own a media reciever and my advice was all i found on google. It did mention that there may be problems with audio playback…
To fix my problem I had to remove the IP Address in the “Public Server URL”. And on top of that I had to check an additional box “Allow Remote Control of Other Users” in the settings of each user within Jellyfin itself.
There are still oddities with the Jellyfin Web App and Phone App, but that’s likely an issue with Jellyfin itself and not any TrueNAS related thing.
