So after removing Plex, and installed “Jellyfin” as we discussed, did not think anything of it, as I had tried it before out of curiosity and it worked then, but it will not work now…
I did a stock install, and when that did not work, I deleted it, and re-installed again, with defaults, and it installs, but when you launch the web console you see…
Bad on me! I should have tried another browser. Weird. That worked!
So, another quick question, what username/password do I use to login with? I do not recall ever setting up a username and password. When I look at the configuration there is a user/group set to 568, but I think that is the internal user that owns the Jellyfin container.
Under the Jellyfin (not TrueNAS) administrative dashboard, see if it’s still scanning your media files - but it definitely shouldn’t have taken the ~40 minutes since your last post.
On TrueNAS, check that your apps user has permissions to access the files in question:
So I blew it away again, this time, I created a “media_access” (3002) user, and a “media_group” (3001). Changed the 568 to 3001 and 3002 respectively in the Jellyfin app configuration.
Added the extra storage, and installed it. This time when it came up, I created my user, and when I went to the folder, everything showed up.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for you help! Everything seems to be working … now to test it from the AppleTV!
Back to the not finding the server, so what I found is that the Jellyfin app create a site data store in your browser. If you run into the that error, here are two thing that worked for me:
Go into the Browser Settings, find Cookies and Site Data. Look for the IP address of your TrueNAS or Jellyfin server. Remove it.
If the error pops up, open in another browser, find out what the new Jellyfin server is called… “jellyfin-nnnnnnnnn-xxxxx”. Return to this misbehaving browser, delete the existing server and enter the IP of the Jellyfin server, and it should find your Jellyfin server. Select it and you are good to go.
