Middleware (middlewared) "PYTHON_EXCEPTION" everyday on mutiple instances

I’ve been regulary restarting middlewared & am now trying to to up the fs/sys limits. I’m not running any parituclar unique config. So are others running into this same issue? It seems like a bug, or that Truenas should have higher defaults on these. Unless there truly is something unique about my setups.

I’ve basically increase these 16x from the TrueNAS default for now.

No, that doesn’t sound normal at all.

To get this rolling, please include your TrueNAS version and hardware configuration, as well as if you’re using apps/vms/containers or similar. I recommend also including what kind of shares you have active (if any) and what applications may be accessing those shares. Some applications open a lot of files.

Finally, the error message you posted is dated 2026-05-07. Is that because it’s an old error or is your system clock a few months off?

This most likely means 25.04 or earlier. There were a few resource leaks that we didn’t fix until 25.10. It’s possible this user is hitting one of the ones in old truenas version

It was happening daiiy when I was on older versions of Truenas. But I’ve been running 25.10.4 now for a few weeks. I figured the issue was resolved. But it’s happened again twice since the upgrade.

Sorry about that. Yes it was an error for a while back. It was a daily issue back then. So the log had 1000s of those. I just grabbed one at random from my grep. Here is the more recent one.

On the Network Side I have a 10Gb Bonded interface (2) intel X710, with a few VLANs. No jumbo frames or network tuning.

It happened again lasted about 4 days. It hit the file handle limit of 1024. I have a list of all the fd if you’re interested. I’m in the process of compressing my middlewared.log (it’s currently 45GB). So I’ll have a clean log for the next few days. I’m going to increase the fd limit by 2x and see what happens.

If base install is not tainted (you have not use install-dev-tools / other mechanisms to install packages on truenas), and configuration for NAS has been made through our UI / API, please file a bug ticket with relevant information in our jira.
