Hi all,
I currently have a Proxmox host (Minisforum MS-01) plus a 6-bay Synology for SMB (client access) and NFS (VM) storage. I now wanted to consolidate everything into one physical TrueNAS machine.
I’ll salvage the Synology and Proxmox host for HDDs (RAID 10 for data; 6x 12 TB), NVMEs (Raid 1 for VMs / Apps; 2x 1 TB) and maybe RAM but I’ll need the rest. As times have changed and I now know nothing about building PCs anymore I’d appreciate any help.
Currently I have chosen:
-
AMD EPYC 4245P (Epyc for ECC???)
-
ASRock Rack B650D4U-2L2T
-
Built into a Jonsbo N4, Noctua fan and SFX 80 plus gold PSU with 650 W
Am I gong in the right direction here?
Use case which is currentky served by the Proxmox host and Synology NAS:
-
SMB share for live editing photos with Lightroom (10 Gbit/s NIC)
-
Multiple apps / VMs / LXCs with data storage on hdd pool and app itself on NVME pool
-
Immich
-
Jellyfin
-
Paperless
-
AdGuard Home
-
-
HomeAssistant (quite a large install) incl. go2rtc, Zigbee2mqtt and so on
This would be the DDR5 setup. I’d switch to the X570D4U-2L2T if I can’t get my handy on any “cheap” DDR5 RAM. Goal is someday using ECC RAM of course.
The other option would be to stick with my current hardware and still have to boxes but exchange the Synology fot a JBOD enclosure and add a HBA card to the Minisforum and create a TrueNAS VM to forward the HBA card to.
I’d still have two boxes and two OSs I have to maintain, what I wanted to avoid and won’t have ECC memory as the MS-01 doesnt support it AFAIK.
Glad for any input!
THANKS!
