Hello people!!!
I arrived here after test and test and no way to find a solution!!!
My system has 4 pool:
boot pool - 2 SSD Mirror
Apps-pool - 2 ssd Mirror
NVR-pool - 1 HDD
Data-pool - 3 HDD Raid1
All discs are connected to LSI9300 (firmware updated). After about two years working, “Data Pool” start to appear Ckecksum errors, not a few, It increse about 1.000.000 per day. I make a lot of test, but no lack.
I changed power wiring to a different PSU line, also I changed power cable
I connected 3 discs direct to SATA motherboard ports
I ran Memtest 24h - no error
I will change PSU this night but, as other discs has no errors, I dont think this will solve the problem…
What do you think about this problem…??? Has anyone has any idea???
Thanks for all!!!
Hi and welcome to the forums.
luiscaloto:
Data-pool - 3 HDD Raid1
RAID-Z1 I guess?
What are the drives make/model/size?
Do the checksum errors appear across all three drives and are the amounts identical?

Hello!!!
Yes It is!! RAID Z1.
I have 3 WD Red 8TB
The ch ckeksum errors are almost the same in 3 hdds!!!
I dont know what more test that can I do!!!
When you moved the Data-pool from the HBA to the mobo did the checksum errors continue to climb in the same fashion or just stay the same?
Can you post the output of zpool status -v Data-pool
Also the output of smartctl -a /dev/sdx x being the last letter of your 3 WD drives.

Any chance that if you change the sata data connections from the HBA to different disks the errors follow? Could be port and/or cable issue if we’re lucky.
When I moved sata ports to mothwerboard, the errors continúe climbins as same rate.
3 smartctl are perfect. I Will post the data tonight.
Thanks for your help
Try out my set of flow charts which will help you identify the problem. Right now I can’t tell if the drives are bad, data cables are bad, power supply, etc. Could be a CPU as well, although I think that is rare. But a power supply issue could be causing it too.
Check out the link, grab a copy of the charts, jump through them. It should be simple to isolate this down some.
Also, provide your system specs, be specific. And what, if any, Apps are you running on TrueNAS, and is TrueNAS running on bare metal?
ok! Thank you very much joeschmuck! I will follow your link!!! I think I tested all components/cables/hardware except Power supply. As can I undestand, a faulty PSU, will make checksum errors on other disck, isn´t it??
I paste my results:

Are you sure?
If the errors are climbing at 1 million per day, then after 3 days you should have over 3 million errors for each drive.
The errors reported by zpool status are cumulative, unless you reset them with zpool clear or run a scrub that finds no errors.
Yes, It is. I reseted then one day ago, when I test connecting SATA to motherboard ports. So, system is running about 30 hours and you can check how high are checksum errors….
I cant change PSU this night. I Hope It solve the problem….
***Checksum errors reset on reboot system too
Hello Oxyde!!!
yes. I set Up on power management to 5 minutes, I think… It could be a problem???
I have to install another fan, but the Max temp registered was 46 degree
I Will run today and paste the results
About steps of Joeschmuck, I followed then. I think this is a very good and interesting job and very interesting guide to solve any disk problem!!! In my case, It cant solve my problems, because I cant stop my checksum errors!!!
Thanks again to all!!

IMHO a bit much aggressive. You are stressing a lot your disks
you really need it
Those 2 things, if not fixed, will kill your disks on long term… but not explain the errors.
Let’s wait your results

46° is perfectly fine.
Ran my at 55° for years without any problems.
For most HDDs, 5° to 50° or 60° is within vendor specs and perfectly fine.
The WD red in question here is rated up to 65°.
A cooler HDD might run slightly longer (there is no good scientific data backing up that claim though AFAIK, just a lot of people online parroting that claim or talking about their gut feeling), but it isn’t a cause to really worry.
Are these drives WD Red SMR drives?
Looks like 8TB WD Red were never SMR.

OK! I will change it to 60 minutes!
I just received today my new RM750x PSU. I will install it after lunch time! I’ll write again to update the results.
Thanks !
No luck with PSU Replacement!
Next step: mother+ram(change to ECC) + processor
This problem is making me crazy!
You’re reading 1 million blocks per day? What is your server doing?
Can you give the output of zpool status -v Data-pool then wait 1 hour and do it again? The number of errors should climb 40k.
An observation: Drive WD-WX72D242NZCK has a “Power Cycle Count” of 11,793. This is not a SLEEPING Drive issue, this is a power to the drive issue. You have a bad power connection.
I guess I should add this kind of scenario to the flowcharts, but it can’t be that common.
Once you fix the bad power connection, and the drive Power Cycle Count stops increasing, then you can fix the other errors. Please note that it could be a power cable or it could be a bad solder connection or failed electronics on the drive itself.
Once that is fixed, now address your file corruption issues.
Delete the files reported as corrupt by zpool status -v first. These files are not recoverable and are corrupt.
Next, after the files have been deleted, run zpool clear data-pool then zpool scrub data-pool.
Wait at least 1 hour so you have some data to work with and you can check the status again, see if the CKSUM is still zero and no new corrupt files occur. zpool status -v and hopefully things will look up.

@luiscaloto replaced the PSU and the errors continue for all 3 drives, not just 1 drive.

Presume you changed the power cables from the PSU to the drives also? (If using a modular PSU) ?
Did you also replace the SATA cables?
