New to NAS Dell R630

Hello and thanks for reading

I am trying to figure out the perfect machine to run truenas on and I don’t think there is one!! I was going to build but there are way too many options. On my local facebook market place I see someone selling a Dell R630 machine. How will this work for a nas server? My goals are to have all my business files on it in 1 location that I can access them from over my network and also over the internet. I have 2 business computers and it drives me crazy that I have different files on each system.
I would also like to have run my plex server on this machine and store all my plex related files on it (total about 8TB)

Here is what the post says about the machine

Dell R630
Dual Xeon E5-2630 v4
512 GB EEC ram @ 2133
Dual power supply
Quad 1G nic
Dual 1.92 tb sata ssd currently in raid 1

Cost is 500

That’s way more hardware than you need for two business computers accessing a NAS. You need to plan for backing up your data to a second location. It could be office, home or cloud. You don’t want the NAS to be the only source.

View the Resources section for a few builds. Something like the TrueNAS Mini series would work fine. You can make your own or look for used with like specs.

Might be overkill but it is less thsn half the price of the machines listed on the link you sent. I am not against spending a few grand on a machine if it will do what i need and be better than the used machine. I also plan on backing up my business files on a cloud drive to have numerous copies.
Thanks for the reply!
