One jail updates to 13.3-RELEASE-p7, the other doesn't

TrueNAS Core, 2 jails, one housing Nextcloud 29.0.6 the other one housing Plex, both on 13.3-RELEASE-p5. The Plex jail updates to 13.3-RELEASE-p7 using the “update” button in TN, the Nextcloud jail doesn’t and returns a comment "no update available for [jail] ". Does that even make sense?

Is it wise to upgrade to 13.4-RELEASE instead without break stuff?

I am puzzled what happened…despite the comment, the Nextcloud jail now also shows as 13.3-RELEASE-p7. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

13.3 will be EOL end of 2024. That means pkg upgrade and provisioning new jails will break.

I run mine on 13.4 and I am not experiencing any issues. There is a small number of similarly positive reports in various threads on this forum.

So I suggest to plan for some maintenance time, take snapshots (iocage does that for you, anyway), and just try it as soon as convenient, before it becomes an urgent matter :slightly_smiling_face:

Any experience with moving a Nextcloud jail from 13.3 to 13.4?

Yeah, sure - works as expected.

Is it also confirmed with:

iocage list -l

Are they all “Basejails”?

If you update one basejail all of them on the same major release are updated already.

I know. But I find it odd that one would report -p5 and the other -p7 if they are indeed all basejails.

EDIT: Unless the GUI (or wherever) is not showing the true value, and needs to be “refreshed”. Which is why I think bypassing the GUI with iocage can determine if the jail is really on -p5.

EDIT 2: The heck is going on with me? I read the very portion I quoted as “-p5”. This is what it looked like to me, I swear!

EDIT 3: Winnie logging off the forums permanently out of shame.

yes sir.

See my “edits of shame” above. :pensive: Discard anything I say from this day forth.

Winnie permanently logging off (again… and “more permanent” this time, I swear).

Nah. Shit happens…all the time. The logic is simple: if you don’t do anything you cannot make mistakes…

That is for the weekend then, when there is time to fix in case it goes south. I also need to update to 29.0.8 but wanted to wait until the Q3 closure was completed, which it is now.

I was going to blame it on you, claiming that your “7’s” look like “5’s”, but you seem like a nice person. My happiness has returned.

Winnie un-logging off.

Anti-logging off?

Reverse logging off?

Is there even a word for the opposite of “logging off”?

How about “logging on?” :upside_down_face:

That is so embarrassing how I forgot about such a common term. :flushed:

Winnie permanently un-logging on out of shame…

Running my private one on 30, already.

I would have expected that to come up on the GUI updater but it hasn’t yet. I am assuming it will at some point in time or doesn’t it work like that with major releases?

I use the FreeBSD packages for Nextcloud and pkg upgrade to update.

The only reason I don’t, is I want caddy as my webserver.

I think nextcloud pkg pulls in nginx as a dep.

Can I upgrade all my jails in one shot?

So is it correct to assume that at some point, NC30 will pop up in the NC update GUI?
