Permissions for qbittorrent

I just migrated from 24.10.2.4 to 25.10.3.1.

Background:
I had qbittorrent installed as an app with mostly default settings. I have a Downloads dataset that has apps as the owner (568). In order for me to manage files from SMB, I added another user into the app group so I could access it on a windows machine with SMB share. This has been working fine for me previously, I could download files or files in folders and I could delete the files/folders.

After migration, I realised I can still delete qbit downloaded files, but not folders. I could go into the folder but I could also not create files in the folders that were downloaded by qbittorent. I could go into the dataset from the GUI to edit the permissions again where after applying user and group permissions, I could delete it but for new downloaded files I will not be able to delete again.

Thanks for looking into this, not sure if I missed out some steps here or if there are better ways to achieve the same thing of being able to manage (delete) the files that are generated by apps via SMB. Please share too.

Without better alternatives, I will stick to “Run on torrent finished“ in qbit’s settings

I have found the better solution from this post:

I was initially using POSIX ACLs, and the recommendation is to use NFSv4. After switching to NFSv4, indeed the inherit option is not checked. I have thus selected NFS4_RESTRICTED and by default the inherit option is checked. No issues with the app thereafter.
