Pool exported after power loss

I had a power loss and due to a faulty ups my True Nas server crashed. I don’t have a fancy setup just

Plus 8 hard drives 4 are connected to a sata pcie adapter. No VM or anything like that. I’ve read forum posts for about a week before deciding to post and ask for help.

It shows that my hard drives are exported and any basic commands to import them back don’t work.

It doesn’t show up in the list to import pool under storage but it does show all my unassigned disk when i click add to pool. I didn’t want to lose the data so i didn’t go this route due to the prompt that says everything will be erased if I do.

I replaced the ups and hopefully there is an easy solution I’m overlooking to get things back up and running.

What ‘sata pcie adapter’.
Give us a detailed hardware listing and how you had the pools set up. You are showing a bunch of mixed drive sizes in the screenshot.

Please run the following in the Shell or Console and post the results of each command in a separate Preformatted Text window. </> on toolbar or Ctrl+e
I think this should cover most of the data and questions on your current system status.

lsblk -bo NAME,LABEL,MAJ:MIN,TRAN,ROTA,ZONED,VENDOR,MODEL,SERIAL,PARTUUID,START,SIZE,PARTTYPENAME

sudo ZPOOL_SCRIPTS_AS_ROOT=1 zpool status -vLtsc lsblk, serial, smartx, smart

sudo zpool import

sudo zpool status -v

Here’s a link to the expansion card.
Pcie Expansion Card

The specs of the system are:
AMD 5600G - CPU w/ Integrated Graphics
ASRock B550M - ITX Motherboard
32 GB of RAM
8 Hard Drives of varying sizes and brands
1 M.2 SSD

Pools were setup up as with no raid or anything of that nature. I call it JBOD from windows but I’m not sure if that carries over.

● Compliant with SATA3.0 standards, backward compatible with SATA1.0 and SATA2.0. Support PCIe1.0, 2.0, 3.0 protocol on motherbaord PCIe X2, X4, X8, X16 slot.
● Full height and low profile bracket included.
● Supports Windows 7/8/10, Windows Server 2008 R2/2012 R2/2016/2019, RHEL/CentOS 6/7/8, Debian 9/10/11, Ubuntu 16/18/20/21, SUES 11/12/15, FreeBSD 11/12/13, VMware ESXi 5/6/7.
● NOT support hot swaping!

yep thats it

Far from optimal, but apparently without port multipliers.

This is indeed a stripe: Lose one drive, loose all. Are you aware of this risk? :fearful:

Have you removed drives in this pool?

Anyway, the next step is to look at labels.
sudo zdb -l /dev/sda1
and repeat for all 8 drives sda through sdh
I fear that they are widely out of sync, as we’ve now seen too often with “dubious setups” and power losses. :scream:

No I wasn’t aware, but I do have the most important files backed up.

I havent removed any of the drives.

Still, there is this indirect-5 and labels show nine children for eight drives.

sda has

        degraded: 1
        aux_state: 'err_exceeded'

and I don’t know what we can do about it.
All drives are at txg 5543776, except sdc which is at 5549194, 5418 txg ahead (7.5 hours!). No common überblock.

This looks bad. Maybe @HoneyBadger can have a better idea than trying to import at 5543776?

Edit You can check SMART reports for sda, and initiate a long test if none was excecuted recently.
sudo smartctl -x /dev/sda

Seven drives on and the same TXG and one 5418 TXG ahead. It almost looks like ZFS / TrueNAS messed up the TXG on power loss on the single drive. Like it burped 5418 ahead, into the future. I can’t see any way a striped pool like this would have it.

Is there a way to tie the TXG to actual time?

Not really. You can get an idea of it by comparing a snapshot’s TXG to its creation time, then estimate the time for a TXG that is newer or older than the snapshot.

My apologies we has two nas setups one true nas and one synology I thought our previous drive failure was on the synology nas but it was on the true nas 4-5 months ago. The drive was replaced the system was able to reintegrate the drive and we hadn’t had any issues with it until the power outage.

sudo smartctl -x /dev/sda
