I have a simple setup home NAS while in the process of upgrading it, the only storage pool I have suddenly exported two of the drives and the third just simply became unavailable, the three drives are attached to an HBA IT mode through a SAS breakout cable , two of them are connected to a molex to SATA adapter.
the one who became just suddenly unavailable,It is detected by the system but not as a replica of the pool it was part of( I dunno if that’s relevant or not but all that happened after I accidentally attached the culprit drive to a normal SATA power instead of the Molex adapter) , I’ve tried everything that I know to make the pool available for import again but it just won’t happen.
please help to understand what’s going on here, is it a failed hardware related to the drive itself? or something in the pool configuration somwhow changed and won’t recognize that drive anymore , FYI the pool is stripped and doesn’t have a backup which I know isn’t smart on my end.
please I’d appreciate any help to figure out a solution or at least understanding what happened!
sorry for the confusion, I tried to make the post shorter because I’ve been trying this for couple days with no progress,
I’ve tried more than one version of the truenas scale but the current version is Electric Eel 24.10,
HBA is supermicro aoc-s3008l-l8e,
drives are -Supermicro 10TB Sas HUH721010AL5200 (the one shows unavailable)
-HGST SAS 6TB HUS726060AL5211
-Seagate 4TB SAS ST4000NM0043
Vdevs are all in one stripe pool with no redundancy
they show exported from the pool because the third drive isn’t available, what I meant that these two still seem to belong to that pool but the third was showing just N/A under the pool tab when I check their info through the disk utility in trunas.
so I downgraded the scale version hoping that it was just issue with the version itself , the pool still won’t show up, so I went back to the the 24.10 uploaded my saved configuration file , the two drives are showing online but that third supermicro is still showing unavailable/offline.
sorry, I didn’t see any warnings before that happening, I was trying to finish my upgrade build and needed to disconnect the old build and all, the mobo I got for the new one needed replacement for some issue in it, had to reconnect the old build, while doing so I accidentally connected that SM 10TB drive to a regular SATA instead of the Molex to Sata adapter and then the system booted into that mess !
