Hi
I had created portainer running fine with two stacks (Plex and Immich). On the TrueNAS Apps tab, it suggested “Updates Available”. I went ahead and clicked on the update (of course without having a backup ). Now my portainer went thru a fresh install with no stacks. arrhh…
I realize I should have been more careful. But is there a way to recover from this? The Portainer configuration storage was set to “ixVolume: Is dataset created automatically by the system.”
Thanks
Ramana
I’d suggest you switch from ixvolume to hostpath as storage for your portainer install. As far as i understand it, ixvolumes are only meant for app testing and are only somewhat semi permanent. They get re-created when the app updates and that could be the reason why your stacks disappeared.
LarsR,
Thanks. I guess I should have been more careful while I was installing portainer the first time. In my defense, I used the defaults!
The default of “ixVolume: Is dataset created automatically by the system” and the alluring siren “Updates Available” is a recipe for many more falling victims to this trap. Maybe an enhancement request needs to be created?
Thanks
Ramana
I also had installed Portainer with default settings and updated it today. It kept my previous settings and password. But I didn’t have containers created with Portainer.
