Problem with Asm1166 10Port PCIE

I have a Truenas community version, which I switched off from 24.10 to 25.04. Since then, I’ve been having problems with the SATA PCIE card Asm1166 10-port PCIE. My hard drives are no longer recognized, so I’ve also added a few locomotives. If you have any ideas or solutions, please let me know.
I’m pretty sure there have been major changes to the kernel, which means the hardware is no longer compatible with the kernel.

can you link what exact card you’ve bought?

the ASM1166 is a 6-port chipset, not 10-port. which brings the possibility you’ve bought a card with port-multiplier chips.

Your log also has lines like [ 3.449927] ata2.00: ATAPI: QEMU DVD-ROM, 2.5+, max UDMA/100 suggesting you may be running this in on a hypervisor which can be risky if not done correctly. (Proxmox in particular has been known to silently import TrueNAS pools before starting the TrueNAS VM…)

not sure what you mean by adding locomotives… but please describe your setup.

Locomotives’…? Could it be that the text was originally written in another language (maybe German?), and that the English word ‘logs’ (for logfiles) was misspelled as ‘Loks,’ which a not-so-smart AI then translated as ‘locomotives’…?

Locomotive means logfiles.

Asm1166 10port sata

Yes it runs on a hypervisor (proxmox 9.0) the truenas runs on a VM, the SATA card as device passthrough and we also prevented in proxmox boot settings to mount.

It works flawlessly under TrueNAS 24.10, but as soon as you update to 25.04, it can no longer access the hard drives. If you reboot to 24.10, everything works without issues (do not change the settings on Proxmox or reboot Proxmox at this time).

My Setup and image

Asus F2A85-M
AMD A10-5700
20GB DDR3
SSD Boot
2x 10TB Seagate ironwolf
5x 1TB WB Blue
2x 300GB WB
Powersupply 350W

…until it doesn’t because your SATA card has a JMB port multiplier. Stay on 24.10 until you have replaced the card by a proper SAS HBA, or at the very least a card without port multiplier (won’t be cheaper than the HBA).
