Assuming I have a RAIDz2 pool with the following disks:
Is it possible to exchange the two 4TB drives (one at a time) for 2TB models?
Since the usable capacity of the 4TB disks in a mixed RAIDz2 pool is only ~2TB, it should actually be feasible.

Try it and find out.
In theory the answer is yes - but its not something I have ever tried.

Yes, it should work.
However, on rare occasions newer drives are slightly smaller than existing. Thus, for example if the current 2TB drives are really 2.01TB and the newer ones are 2.00TB, it won’t work. Annoying, but reality.

My two 2TB SSDs have arrived and the replacement of the 4TB drives with 2TB drives has worked as planned.
Many thanks for all the feedback.
