Reduze size of (mirrored) boot pool

Hello, currently my boot pool is a mirrored set of one 120GB SSD and one 128GB USB drive.

I know the USB drive was a poor choice, it was mainly to have at least something be there to get mirrored to in case the SSD fails. It made me sleep better I guess.

However I am getting tired of seeing the constant warnings that the use of a USB drive within the boot pool is a bad idea (I also want to use the USB drive for something else), so I thought I’ll replace it with a 60GB SSD I had salvaged from one of my builds.

Plugged the SSD in, tried to replace the USB drive with the 60GB SDD and I get the error:

EZFS_BADDEV] cannot replace 15932758661038213689 with /dev/sdg3: device is too small

What are my options here? I would like to avoid having to reinstall everything just to replace the USB drive and reduce the boot pool size, but if I have to I guess I’ll do that.

Make a config backup - store safely, not on the NAS

Make sure you have the right ISO on a bootable USB stick

Switch off NAS

Remove both boot drives

Install 60GB SSD. Consider disconnection of the main data pools as a just in case though it should be obvious

Install TN to new 60GB SSD

Switch off reconnect the main data pool

switch back on and upload the config file
