Replacing drive with a larger drive

Hello,

I currently have 1 RAIDZ2 vdev, 8 drives wide 4 Tb each. Later down the line i will have to upgrade to at least 8tb drives. One of my drives is failing and I’ve read that its not suggested to mix different sized drives. My question is do i replace the drive with the same capacity, or start incrementally upgrading now by swapping out the failing drive with the 8tb.

The only reason to avoid them is that your vdev will be limited based on the size of the smallest drive in it. If you’re planning on upgrading anyway, I’d use the larger drive.

Thank you for your quick reply! I’ll go with the 8tb.
