Rsync Qnap < TrueNAS issue with dataset

Hi!

I updated from AngelFish to Bluefin and then to Cobia, and as you well know Rsync became an app and all my Rsync backups are having issues.

I’m using Qnap to connect to TrueNAS to get the files, I’m doing it this way because I can make Qnap to switch on do the backup and turn off after the backup.

I could do the backup to a newly created dataset in the TrueNAS scale set to “app” but the old data sets seems can’t be accessed with the error.

Message: [Hybrid Backup Sync] Failed to complete Sync job: “test”. Encountered error “rsync: [sender] change_dir “/” (in rsyncqnapunit) failed: Permission denied (13)” Attempting to retry. Error code: 1.

Seems there is an obvious permission issue but I’m stuck in how to move forward from here…
I could change to backup through SMB but it was giving more issues in the past so I rather use the Rsync method.

Any help or idea is appreciated.

I reply myself.

I just needed to add the “apps” group to the permissions of the old Datasets.
Once that is done ( and also done recursively ) it works as intended.
