Scale WebUI Possible Memory Leak When Deleting 100 Snapshots at a Time

TrueNAS Scale Version: 25.04.1

I have been using TrueNAS Scale since it’s been released. This current install has been installed since version 22.02.4 (Angelfish) and I have been upgrading it since then.

I just got the notification that I was exceeding the recommended snapshot limit. The reason it got that many was my fault but is not the point. So I started to delete snapshots 100 at a time. At first things where fine and I didn’t notice much but my cpu fan on my desktop I was ramping up. Then a minute later the PC started to freeze periodically and finally it totally locked up. I hard restarted the PC and tried the same process again. Went to my snapshots and started to delete 100 at a time same thing happened.

At this point I started to monitor the process using Btop++ and noticed that the process running the tab that the Truenas Scale WebUI was running under was using 21Gigs of my 32Gigs of ram in my PC. I thought that was strange this time I caught it early and just closed Firefox. At this point I decided to try a Chromium browser (I used Brave because I had it installed) and the same thing was happening the process was running away with all my memory.

I am not sure if this is the correct place to report this but it’s the only place I found to talk about this other than reddit.

I think you should also make a bug report on jira. I don’t think the IX team easily tracks stuff like this on the forums. Here is a link to the docs on how to file one: Issue Reporting Doc
