It should work. The i3 9100 is a popular choice to get ECC support and an iGPU for a good price.
There is also this option, that can bifurcate, has 10G ethernet and uses cheaper RDIMM RAM:
I built an all flash system with that.
6x ssds and 2x NVMEs, idling around 50 Watts.
