Slow SMB (Kodi & Win11) after TrueNAS 12->13 & Supermicro X10SRi-F BIOS Update

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my system from TrueNAS Core 12 to TrueNAS Core 13, and I am running into significant performance issues with both streaming and general file transfers.

At the same time as the OS update, I also updated my motherboard BIOS and IPMI firmware.

The Issues:

  1. Streaming: On version 12, movies opened instantly on my Nvidia Shield (Kodi). Now, they take several minutes to start or fail/timeout completely.

  2. File Transfers: Copying and pasting files from my Windows PC (recently updated to Windows 11) to the NAS is now very slow.

Troubleshooting I have done:

  1. Network Speed: Confirmed my local network backbone is 1G.

  2. SMB Settings: Verified SMB settings are standard (SMB1 Support is disabled, Apple SMB2/3 Extensions are disabled).

  3. The “Temporary” Fix: I found that if I go to Network > Interfaces, edit my interface, and toggle Hardware Offloading (tick or untick it), both the streaming and file transfer speeds return to normal immediately. However, after a restart or a short time, the slowness returns.

System Details:

  • OS: TrueNAS Core 13

  • Motherboard: Supermicro X10SRi-F

  • BIOS/Firmware: Updated to BIOS v3.4, Firmware 03.93 (Redfish v1.0.1)

  • Clients: Nvidia Shield (Kodi) & Windows 11 PC

My Question: Is this a known driver issue with TrueNAS 13 or an issue with the new BIOS? The fact that toggling “Hardware Offloading” temporarily fixes it suggests the network stack is struggling with offloading.

Any advice on a permanent fix (Tunables or Settings) for this specific board would be appreciated!

Core 13 would be very stable at this point. I don’t expect any driver issues. You can try downloading a system configuration and doing a fresh install of your current Core 13 version and reloading the configuration, or boot to a previous boot environment and see if the problem still occurs.
