SMB "Default" ACL Permissions Check

,

TrueNAS Scale 24.10

Trying to add a simple Group to an SMB share, and getting all sorts of ACL Filesystem errors. It seems I cannot touch any of the defaults or root or default permissions or anything without all sorts of “errors” when applying recursively.

After searching the old forums and trying to force it, this seems to be the “bare minimal” set of permissions for a simple SMB share where I want to add two groups: one for ReadOnly and one for Write.

Does this seem right? Note that I cannot touch any of the defaults or duplicates or anything without all the ACL Filesystem errors popping up saying XYZ is required.

IOW, this seems overly complex and duplicative (sp ck). Do we really need all of this, to add two simple groups?

Again, attempting to delete any of ROOT/ROOT duplicates results in all sorts of ACL filepermission error popups.

Attempting to delete any of the Other duplicates results in ACL filepermission errors.

Basically, what’s the difference of setting DEFAULT for these if they are all required - and duplicating?

Why don’t you try with NFSv4 instead of POSIX ACLType? POSIX ACLs by definition have a larger amount of mandatory entries.

Thank you. However, that does not address my question.

The services and devices I’m using consume SMB. Hence, my post.

Please read documentation on ACLs. It explains ACL types.
