The purpose of the firewall is not to expose the NAS to the Internet (never! do! that!) but to provide a secure means of remote access like a VPN.
Got it got it. So, let’s say i don’t need to access my NAS which is at home, then do i need a firewall at this point? Would that benefit in such case?
If you have Internet access and therefore some kind of router, possibly provided by your ISP, you already have a firewall. It’s part of your router.
More complex “enterprise” firewalls like e.g. OPNsense “only” permit you to configure things like remote access via VPN, separation of IoT devices from your family network, DNS based filtering of tracking in websites, regulating Internet hours for the kids, …
if you don’t need any of this, you don’t need an enterprise firewall.
Thank you so much dear friend for helping me with this. So, as usual, it will be in the office and not at home.
Thanks again
