Tailscale DIRECTLY installed on truenas scale?

I’ve been fine with running tailscale in a container up till now. But now I want my apps to be able to reference tailscale hosts and that simply doesn’t work because the docker container can’t create the tailscale0 interface.

So, my question is, will I be able to actually do this and get it to work, or will it fail. And if I do get it to work, will I be sorry because truenas upgrades will wipe it out, or because tailscale likes to replace with your /etc/resolv.conf which will then be over-written by truenas (likely), but I can configure networks in truenas to make that work.

Truenas likes things locked down so my default answer is use another host for tailscale routing and update my UDM Pro to add the routes and the gateway to the new host so that was my default plan.

Bottom line: has anyone done this and are you sorry you did?
