Create a fresh VM with Type Linux, no TPM or SecureBoot, a fresh VirtIO or AHCI zvol, and the debian-13.4.0-amd64-netinst.iso
When starting the VM, it will be in the EFI shell instead of booting into the virtual CDROM. The “Boot Manager Menu” shows a “UEFI Misc Device”, instead of both the zvol (HDD) and ISO (CDROM).
I think this is a bug. Either in the VM component, or in the way the UI guides creation, if this is a config issue.
Testing in 25.10.3, there’s a bit more going on. EFI shows “UEFI QUEMU DVD-ROM” for a VM created there, but it still won’t boot the Debian netinst ISO.
This is specific to the debian-13.4.0-amd64-netinst.iso , something in that isn’t picked up by the CDROM handling in TrueNAS KVM/QUEMU. Choosing an Ubuntu ISO is successful.
