I upgraded to Fangtooth RC and Time Machine stopped working. So I removed my NFS shares, disabled NFS, switched all my shares to “Default share parameters”, apart from my Time Machine share which is “Time Machine multi-user”. Then I rebooted.
I read httpX://forums.truenas.com/t/time-machine-problem-with-truenas-fangtooth-rc/37167 and httpX://ixsystems.atlassian.net/browse/NAS-134771 where the problem is worked around by doing the above. It does not work for me.
It’s possible that MacOS has cached the FS capabilities of the SMB server. Have you tried rebooting the Mac? That said, you’re not really giving much here to work off of (for instance posting what error MacOS is showing, what you’re seeing in console logs, etc).
I just tried. After reboot there is at least a progress bar bouncing back and forth “Connecting to backup disk”. But after some time it fails as before.
If I open Finder and view network> truenas I can see the smb shares. I can view all of them except the Time Machine share which gives the error " The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “TimeMachineBackupsMultiUser” can’t be found.
Whether this is normal for a Time Machine backup though I cannot say.
