Hey Everyone,
My first time posting here. I got an odd issue with kind of an unusual setup… but I don’t think the setup/config should be playing a role in the issue I’m having.
I have a ProxMox server that I run my TrueNAS instance in for my wedding video business. I’ve got my 8 drives and SSD’s routed through the VM for direct access. This means SMART alerts don’t make it through to the TrueNAS OS, but anytime there’s an issue in TrueNAS like now, I can either reboot the VM, or restart the entire ProxMox machine remotely.
The issue I’m having is I have another NAS with TBs of archival data I’m trying to get moved/synced up with my new TN server using SyncThing. Most of the drives in the TN server are not new, but came from a NAS I was using recently that was not having any issues as far as I know.
While syncing is happening, the TrueNAS instance has been completely locking up, all docker instances I have accessing data become unresponsive, and even proxmox can’t seem to hard power cycle the VM… so I always end up needing to reboot ProxMox itself.
What troubleshooting steps should I be taking to find what’s causing this? Is there a log I can grab and post here for assistance?
Also, do you guys think it would be worth it to redo my setup to run TrueNAS as baremetal, and just keep it on a controllable UPS for hard reset needs?
